Research background
Semax is a synthetic heptapeptide based on the ACTH(4-7) sequence (Met-Glu-His-Phe), with an additional Pro-Gly-Pro tripeptide that enhances metabolic stability. It was originally developed at the Institute of Molecular Genetics in Moscow as part of research into nootropic and neuroprotective compounds.
Research has focused on its influence on BDNF and NGF expression, modulation of the dopaminergic and serotonergic systems, and potential roles in neuroinflammation cascades.
